23 Apr 2021

The Ministry of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurveda Hospitals Development, and Community Health is on the verge of publishing a tourism magazine which promotes indigenous products and medicine at the end of April.  Speaking to The Morning Business, Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurveda Hospitals Development, and Community Health Ministry spokesperson stated that the ministry is nearing the launch of the Tourism Magazine.  “We are working on launching a tourism magazine for promoting the ayurvedic industry internationally and locally as well which is related to ayurvedic and indigenous medicine and products also,” the Ministry Spokesperson stated.  Furthermore, in a previous interview with the Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurveda Hospitals Development, and Community Health Ministry, it was stated that the tourism magazine was incepted to act as an internal channel to connect to international markets.  Thus, this approach was evaluated to be a magazine, predicted to be titled “Suwadharani International Magazine for Indigenous Medicine in Sri Lanka” which will be provided to airlines, flights, high-class hotels, and restaurants. “It is almost finalised, each and every article and it will go to printing. Most probably it will come out at the end of this month,” the Spokesperson revealed.  Also, they also mentioned that there are discussions underway regarding the Ayurvedic Medicines Centre and Ayurvedic zone.  “We are planning to establish ayurvedic zones in Sri Lanka. I cannot give you the exact details about where but we are having discussions about this zone,” The Spokesperson commented. Furthermore, they stated that there are discussions for the establishment of Ayurvedic centres in Sri Lanka where two-three centres will be established in every district in Sri Lanka.  Also, in terms of international promotion of the indigenous industry, discussions are taking place regarding the establishment of Authentic Sri Lankan Ayurvedic Centres overseas, especially in Europe and other prominent places in the world in order to promote the Sri Lankan Ayurvedic industry.   “We are planning to establish ayurvedic centres internationally, especially in Europe and other prominent places in the world,” the Ministry Spokesperson commented.  Also, in a previous interview, speaking in this context, another Ministry spokesperson noted that this decision was taken due to the rise of indigenous medicine exports influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic last year. Thus, it was noted by them that discussions were held at the time to establish Sri Lankan Ayurvedic centres in international markets such as Australia, Austria, Germany, Qatar, and Canada.  Accordingly, the Ministry was said to be planning to officially discuss with the relevant authorities and ambassadors of these countries regarding this establishment, the spokesperson said in the previous interview. Another measure taken to promote the indigenous industry involves the ministry looking to collaborate with international insurance companies such as BUPA and MediCare, where international patients will arrive in the country to be completely cured. The last approach involves the establishment of Ayurvedic centres in the local hotel sector called “Sri Lankan Ayurvedic Treatment Centre” rather than “Ayurvedic Spa”.  As there are five main treatments that can be provided for consumers, the ministry was said to be planning to establish chains of these centers in the hotel sector in the country.  Thus, it was also highlighted that the funding for the establishment involves issued loans for construction.
