Banks to introduce mobile ATMs

30 Mar 2020

Banks are to introduce mobile ATMs following concerns raised by many of the lack of cash in hand to buy essential items. Many have not been able to access ATMs to withdraw cash from their accounts due to curfew imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Responding to the issue on social media, Professor Charitha Herath, head of media coordination at the Special Presidential Task Force for Essential Services said the government had held talks with banks on the introduction of mobile ATMs to serve the public. Herath added that People’s Bank had already commenced the service.  "Valid issue. We are trying to arrange some mobile facility to withdraw cash from their accounts. Public & Private bankers agreed to introduce mobile ATM facilities. People’s Bank has already initiated it. Trying our best to address this issue soon. #Sri Lanka #Covid_19," Herath's twitter message read.
