* LaLiga: Atletico Madrid remain on top; Sevilla stay in the hunt
After a dry run, LaLiga league leaders Atletico Madrid found their form with a massive 5-0 win over Eibar on Sunday (18). Two goals from Marcus Llorente and one each from Angel Correa and Ferreiro Carrasco secured the win and another week at the top of the league for Atletico.
Sevilla’s two first-half goals were enough to beat Real Sociedad by 2-1 on Sunday (18). Carlos Fernandez put Real Sociedad ahead in the fiftth minute. Two quick goals before half-time by Fernando and Youssef En-Nesyri put Sevilla in front and it remained the same until the final whistle.
Real Madrid had a chance of closing down the deficit against Atletico by winning this week’s game, but Getafe held strong and managed to draw the game with defending champions.
* Bundesliga: Bayern extend the lead; Dortmund close in on top-four spot
Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top by seven points as they beat Wolfsburg by 3-2 on Saturday (17). The 18-year-old German National Jamal Musiala’s double and Choupo-Moting’s goal in the first half was enough to hold off a late surge from Wolfsburg.
RB Leipzig failed to take the three points in their tie against Hoffenheim on Saturday. It was a goalless draw which meant Leipzig have a daunting task ahead of them if they want to catch up on the defending champions.
Dortmund’s 4-1 win over Werder meant they are just four points away from securing a spot in the top four. Erling Haaland found his goal-scoring form with two goals while Giovanni Reyna and Mats Hummels scored one goal each.
* Ligue 1: PSG and Lile separated by only one point at the top: Lyon and Monaco stay in the chase
Defending champions PSG beat St Etienne by 3-2 also on Sunday. It was a close tussle until the very end. Denis Bouanga put Etienne ahead in the 78th minute. Kylian Mbappe scored two goals in quick succession to put PSG ahead before the 90th minute. With a long injury time ahead, Etienne managed to find the equaliser in the second minute of injury time by Hamouma. PSG pushed on and got the winner seconds left in the clock through Mauro Icardi. The win put them just one point behind Lille at the top.
League leaders Lille dropped points in their 1-1 drawn game against Montpellier on Saturday. Now they are under more pressure with PSG, Monaco, and Lyon who are close behind them in the table with five games to play.
