A body of an adult male had washed up along the beach in the Kudawa district in Kaplitiya during the early hours of this morning, The Morning learns. Speaking to The Morning today (25), Officer in Charge of the Kalpitiya police I P Nishantha Kumara said that the head of the body which is buried in the sand cannot be unearthed until a judge orders for it to be done. "The body was found this morning, with the head part buried in the sand. Once the people reported the body, the police arrived at the scene. We are unable to dig the person’s head out until we receive a court order to do so. We are still waiting for the court order to unearth the head of the body," said IP Kumara. He further confirmed that based on the exterior appearance, the body seems to be of a local individual. "There was an incident of a person in Wadduwa who had toppled off a boat and the body was not found. It could be the same person, but this is yet to be confirmed. From the exterior appearances of the lower body, the individual seems to be a Sri Lankan. Investigations will commence once the court order has been given to exhume the upper part of the body," he mentioned.
