BOI before COPE today

  • AG’s report of EPZs to be taken up
The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has been summoned before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) on 11 November, COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath said. Accordingly, the Auditor General’s (AG) report on the evaluation of performance of the process of establishment of new export processing zones (EPZs) is scheduled to be taken up at the next committee meeting. Further, the National Youth Services Council (NYSC), along with Youth Services (Pvt.) Ltd., the Land Reform Commission (LRC), the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), Technical Services (Pvt.) Ltd., Gal Oya Plantation Ltd., and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), has been summoned before the COPE during the month of November. Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, and the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) have been summoned for the month of December on 1, 2, 7, and 9, respectively. The BOI provides nearly 500,000 direct employment opportunities across the country, stemming from both the 14 EPZs and other manufacturing facilities located outside the zones.
