Boys who attended NTJ lectures: Magistrate records statements on request

 CID record statements from 16 boys Two minors, who had allegedly attended lectures on the use of firearms and the propaganda of extremist ideas, conducted by the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) and its Leader Zahran Hashim, recorded statements with the Fort Magistrate yesterday (13). Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake had recorded their statements, which went on for nearly four hours, according to media reports. The statements had been recorded by the Magistrate following a request made by the parents of the two minors to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), stating that they wanted to submit a statement on the subject. The request was forwarded to the court by the CID. Accordingly, the two boys, aged 8 and 14 years, had appeared before the Magistrate through private lawyers and their statements were recorded with the assistance of a Tamil translator. Meanwhile, the CID said they have so far recorded statements from 16 boys who had allegedly participated in lectures conducted by the NTJ.
