A foot stomping celebration of one of Britain’s brightest stars: Bohemian Rhapsody

04 Nov 2018

On 31 October, the team behind bringing down Bryan Singer’s biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” to Sri Lankan theatres – Scope Cinemas and Skyline Entertainment – held the launch reception at the British High Commissioner’s Residence, celebrating a series of events set in motion, in line with the premiering of the movie – livestream of the world premiere, fan screening at Scope Cinemas, red carpet premiere at Scope Multiplex. Live Stream: All those who logged on to TNL Radio’s Facebook page on 24 October were privileged enough to watch the official live stream event of the world premier which took place in London’s Wembley arena. Fan Screening: A special treat for all Sri Lankan Queen fans allowed the opportunity to attend the exclusive fan screening at Scope Cinemas ahead of the US release. Red Carpet Premiere: Ahead of the film’s worldwide release, Colombo’s elite and special invitees attended the red carpet premiere hosted by Skyline Entertainment at the Colombo City Centre. At the launch reception [gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="10893,10894,10895,10896,10892"] Considering the turbulent political times Sri Lanka is experiencing at present, addressing the attendees, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka James Dauris said: “I thought maybe many of you, particularly the journalists, would not be in attendance today, considering what’s been taking place within the country, but I guess this would prove to be a welcome reprieve from all that.” He added: “Today is a celebration of Britain’s great cinema industry and diversity in all its forms.” Daniella Nobile-Kytides, Chief Operating Officer of Skyline said: “Our goal, in organising all of these events, is to give film enthusiasts in Sri Lanka the same experience the rest of the countries have when there is a premiere.” There’s no better piece of art to be a part of providing a nation with a diversified experience, as Bohemian Rhapsody – based on absolute legends Queen and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury; who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film, starring Rami Malek of Mr. Robot fame, traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, as they reach unparalleled success; and Freddie’s eventual departure from the band to pursue a solo career which he soon abandons to return to collaboration with Queen, once again skyrocketing him and his band to fame. It is also a fantastic tale of truth and struggle, as Freddie Mercury bravely faces his struggle with his AIDS diagnosis while propelling the band to continued fame – as he leads the band in one of the greatest performances in rock history. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers, and music lovers to this day.
