Fairway Colombo hosts a vibrant cultural show every Monday and Thursday, from 7 p.m. onwards at Hospital Street, Colombo 01. With the objective of further supporting tourism in Sri Lanka and to boost Colombo’s status as a famed tourist destination, Fairway Holdings launched the Fairway Colombo Cultural Show, which offers a truly memorable experience to all on a regular basis at no cost whatsoever. The objective of the Cultural Show is to create more opportunities for traditional performers to showcase their skills and gain recognition for their extraordinary abilities. Over the centuries, Sri Lanka’s brilliant, colorful, and vibrant culture has attracted many visitors from across the globe who have helped spread the word about Sri Lanka’s infinite beauty, molding our quaint little island into a famed tourist destination. [gallery columns="2" size="full" link="file" ids="16150"] The agenda The event boasts a plethora of cultural activities: Ves dance, Naga Gurulu performance, Raban dance, Angampora, Salu Paliya, and traditional drum performance. The traditional dancers capture the attention of the audience and passers-by, transporting them to another time entirely. [gallery size="full" columns="2" link="file" ids="16149"] The performances not only enrapture crowds of tourists and locals, but also play a vital role in sustaining traditions, and thereby preserving the fabric of authentic Lankan culture. A highlight is the display of the 30,000-year-old form of martial arts, Angampora, which is currently experiencing a revival of sorts with the country’s youth turning to it as a martial art, and also as a way of learning discipline and maintaining a balanced way of life.
