‘Midi Pokurak’ in December

A tribute concert for Anton Jones named “Midi Pokurak” by son Tyrone Jones will be held on 20 December, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Bishop’s College Auditorium in Colombo. Tyrone will light up the night along with the “superstars” who will arrive back in action to support Tyrone’s re-imagination of Anton Jones’ legendary Baila tracks. The “superstars” consisting of singers Ernest Soysa, Upali Cannangara, Maurice and Sarath de Alwis, who used to sing alongside Anton Jones back in the day, have decided to grace the occasion to make this event more memorable.

The late Anton Jones was a remarkable and brilliant veteran singer with a career spanning more than six decades, releasing more than 50 cassettes and CDs since his first song aired in 1958. He was renowned for the rare exclusivity in his songs and was loved by all Sri Lankans who knew him. Jones, who was born on 3 June, 1937 passed away on 21 February, 2016, leaving the world his beautiful wife Iris and his two sons and daughters, Tyrone, Roshan, Roshini, and Priyanka. Roshan and Tyrone Jones are known for continuing their father’s legacy by singing Anton Jones’ songs at concerts and by setting in motion brilliant concerts in their father’s memory.

Tyrone Jones, who will be featured in the concert, is a government factory officer stationed in Paris. Returning to Sri Lanka to spark his music career and illuminate the stage, he told to The Sunday Morning Brunch that he will also be launching a CD for the first time during the concert in the memory of his father, and so it will be a very special night indeed.
