Buddhika new VP of S. Thomas’ College Bandarawela OBA

Buddhika Kurukularatne was elected unanimously as Vice President of S. Thomas’ College (STC) Bandarawela OBA at the 32nd AGM held at Keble Memorial Hall of S. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela. Kurukularatne (76), an advocate and MIPM (Sri Lanka), is the oldest member of the OBA and is also a journalist, columnist, author of nine books, and a former parliamentarian who represented the Galle District (UNP) at the first proportional representative system in the war-torn general election of 1989. He was awarded a plaque recently by Most Rev. Dhiloraj Canagasabey, the Bishop of Colombo in the Church of Ceylon, at a function where the head masters of Bandarawela STC, Gurutalawa STC, and the Warden of S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia were honoring his services to the school and the OBA. He served for many years as a committee member of STC Bandarawela. Kurukularatne moved to Gurutalawa STC from Bandarawela STC. He was for a long period educated at Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda where he excelled as Head Prefect. At STC Bandarawela, Kurukularatne came under the tutelage of its Founder, W.T. Keble of Keble College of Cambridge fame and STC Gurutalawa; he was fortunate to be under the legendary Dr. R.L. (Rollo) Hayman and Rev. A.J. Foster duo. At Dharmasoka Ambalangoda, he was under yet another erudite Thomian Scholar, D.T. Wijeratne, who was the Principal there. Also elected to the STC Bandarawela OBA was popular screen actress Anjela Seneviratne. She has represented the OBA Committee for several years as the Social Secretary and is now its Assistant Secretary. She was the Editor of Lanka Woman for some time.
