Burying Covid 19 victims: Govt. to announce decision

  The final decision on the burying of Muslims who die of Covid-19 will be announced today (22), following the discussions on the Expert Committee’s findings at yesterday’s (21) cabinet meeting, according to Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella. When contacted by The Morning, the Minister said the Government will take a decision based on the findings of the Expert Committee.   “The issue will be discussed at the cabinet meeting and a final decision will be made,” he said last evening when asked whether the Government had identified land to bury Muslims who die of Covid-19. The Expert Committee was appointed by the Government to review the decision taken to cremate all persons who die due to Covid-19 complications and to reconsider the appeal for burial to be allowed for Muslims. Meanwhile, allegations have been levelled against the Government by various Opposition political parties and rights activists claiming that the Government is violating the rights of Muslims by forcefully cremating their dead.
