Bus strike likely to be called off

08 Feb 2021

The strike of private buses that is scheduled to take place tomorrow (9) may be called off as the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) anticipates a positive response from the Government, The Morning learnt.  Speaking to The Morning yesterday (7), LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne said that private bus owners are likely to get solutions for their problems following a meeting that is set to take place today (8) with State Minister of Money and Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal.  “A meeting will take place with State Minister Cabraal at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The strike will most likely be called off because we will get solutions for the issues we have raised.”  The Government’s response to private bus owners’ concerns regarding the Covid-19 health protocols, the promised pandemic insurance that is claimed to not have been received yet, issues with leasing payments, and the paying of log permit charges and other levies are the issues that the LPBOA has raised.
