The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) confiscated 300 MT of rice worth around Rs. 20 million which was stored for use as animal feed, in a raid conducted in Ekala on Tuesday (29), according to the Ministry of Trade.
The raid was conducted based on a tipoff received by Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana that the 300 MT of rice were to be used for animal feed.
The rice stock was found in the premises of an animal feed production company in Ekala.
The CAA took the necessary steps to take legal action against the company, while action was also taken to investigate the matter, according to the Ministry.
Minister Dr. Gunawardana said these sorts of activities that affect the general public would not be allowed by the Government.
He also stressed that it was prohibited to use rice that was good for human consumption as animal feed, as per Gazette Notification No. 2185/67 issued on 23 July 2020.CAA confiscates 300 MT Rice
