The Cabinet has decided to grant relief to electricity consumers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera put forward a proposal on the concessions to be offered to the consumer when the Cabinet convened yesterday.
The proposal includes offering a 25% reduction on electricity bills for units 0-90 consumed for March, April and May this year, a three month grace period to pay the bills and not disconnect the electricity supply.
Cabinet co-spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said that while the Cabinet agreed on the concessions, it was decided that more concessions must be offered.
As a result, it was decided that a final decision on the concessions will be decided at the next cabinet meeting.
