Cabinet nod for Act to regulate Buddhist publications

The Cabinet of Ministers yesterday approved a proposal to enact an Act to regulate Buddhist publications, the government said. It said that various books, publications, CDs and other creations are being published that distort pure Buddhism and Buddhist traditions. Therefore, the proposal was put forth by the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs to instruct a legal draftsman to draft a bill to regulate Buddhist publications.
