Cabinet nod to draft State Intelligence Bill

The cabinet yesterday(14) approved a proposal to  draft a State Intelligence Bill to provide the necessary legal frame work to the State Intelligence Services. This was announced by Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena at the weekly cabinet media briefing today(15). "The State Intelligence Act will regulate the State Intelligence Services and protect and provide immunity to intelligence officers," Gunawardena said. The Act will also grant necessary powers to the state intelligence unit to undertake activities related to state security. Gunawardena said the the government has requested the Attorney General to draft the State Intelligence Bill.
