Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda said goods can be imported directly from India once the upgraded Kankesanthurai (KKS) Harbour is opened.
The government said the harbour is being developed as a main commercial port.
At the opening of a naval sub-office at Kayts, Minister Devananda said steps are being taken to develop the Point Pedro fisheries harbour as well.
