Cardinal welcomes Easter report findings

  Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has welcomed the findings of the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Easter Sunday terror attacks and has urged that immediate action be taken against those responsible. In a statement released by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka (CBCSL), it has been stated that two years have lapsed since the bombings and therefore urged that the Attorney General (AG) be given complete power and freedom over the immediate prosecution of the perpetrators, both those who “aided and abetted” in the attacks and those who were “found to be negligent” in their responsibilities. The CBCSL also noted that 22 volumes of the report are yet to be handed over to the AG and called for the expeditious handing over of the rest of the volumes. It was previously informed that these 22 volumes of the report have not been handed over to the AG due to their sensitive nature. Meanwhile, the Leader of the House and Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said yesterday (9) that the report will be debated in Parliament today (10).
