General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP Dayasiri Jayasekara stated today (05) that Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith’s remarks accusing the former President Maithripala Sirisena could be influenced by politics, as the Presidential Commission of Inquiry report on the Easter attacks has not named Sirisena as a criminal.
Addressing the media today, he said that unless the Court convicts former President Maithripala Sirisena as a responsible party for the Easter attacks, the Cardinal cannot accuse him of being a wrongdoer.
“The Presidential Commission of Inquiry report has only stated that steps should be taken to find out whether they can question the former President of being a responsible party for the Easter attacks,” he said.
He also urged the Cardinal to reflect on his statements and see if there is factual evidence to support his accusations.
“We should find out who was responsible for the bomb blast. We know that the former President is not the perpetrator. Right now, we are attacking an innocent man instead of taking action to find the real masterminds behind this,” he stated.
