Catching up with Unscripted

06 Apr 2021

We, at Brunch, caught up with the band for a chat on their music and more.    How has the journey been like for y'all? What were the challenges you faced along the way?   The journey has been a rollercoaster ride of music and emotions. The common challenge for all musicians who create their own music, especially with English music in Sri Lanka is the financial struggle, and along with that, when there are changes in the lineup, it becomes a challenge when recreating music, but that is something we love to sit and discuss when jamming in the studio. So there are quite a lot of challenges musicians face, especially when you are part of a band.    How did you cope with the pandemic as a band, and how do you think the music industry will recover after the pandemic?    The pandemic happened at a time when we decided not to take many gigs and to work on our originals, get all the productions done, and create more content. So not having many gigs during that time wasn’t a big issue; however we couldn’t travel around for recordings, shoots, and to meet up with the boys and jam, which was a challenge. The event side of the music industry took a massive hit with the pandemic, right now it’s kind of getting back to normal but with many restrictions. It is a massive opportunity to capitalise on your content for musicians who are creating original music and creating content, to upload on various streaming and social media platforms, since the number of people streaming music on platforms such as Spotify and Apple music has increased immensely.   What was your most memorable stage performance?    There were many memorable performances we have had, the events we organised and performed such as our two EP launches (H.U.S.T.L.E. and To You) and “Southside Bounce” with Island Events were great times with good vibes and so much love and support from the fans; and of course the time we opened for Shaggy, Diana King, Maxi Priest, and Big Mountain was a dope experience.    How important do you think it is to write and perform original music?   We have been performing and releasing original music since 2017. Writing and performing original music defines you as an artist; it defines your identity and your message as an artist. In other words, it's probably the most important thing you can do as an artist.   Do you have any plans for the future? Any gigs?   We will be releasing a brand new single on 8 April called Sunscreen. It is a track that you can dance, chill, and drive around to, and it will be released on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and all streaming platforms  We will be performing on 9 April, Friday, from 8 p.m. onwards at Botanik alongside some incredible acts. Come to Botanik this Friday! It’s DISCO!    Follow them on our social media platforms and stay updated.  IG : @unscriptedsl  Facebook : Unscripted  YouTube: Unscripted SL  Music and Videos – Log on to ffm.bio/unscripted
