CBK training un-corrupt, non-criminal youth leaders

BY Buddhika Samaraweera Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said that she is currently engaged in training young leaders who have not been involved in criminal activity, and are dedicated to serving the country. She disclosed this information to the media while participating in an event marking the 22nd death anniversary of her mother and late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and the 77th birth anniversary of her husband, slain actor-cum-politician Vijaya Kumaratunga in Nittambuwa. She said: “The country is in need of young leaders, and there are many such youths who can be made leaders. We are now creating young leaders who do not steal, engage in murder, and are dedicated to serving the country.” Speaking to the media recently, New Lanka Freedom Party Leader MP Kumara Welgama said that a broad political alliance would be formed in the future and will bring forward educated young leaders into politics. Kumaratunga recently attended the event to declare open the said party’s headquarters. Meanwhile, Kumaratunga has been appointed Senior Advisor to the National Combined Mechanism for Food Security and Nutrition, headed by Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake. She said that she had agreed to function as the Senior Advisor to the programme, as ensuring food security and nutrition is a subject of urgent national importance in the prevailing situation, but stressed that she was not involved in it as part of the Government.
