CCD to record statements from Rajitha & Chathura over false claim of journalist abduction: Police

18 Mar 2021

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) would record statements from MP Rajitha Senaratne and his son Chathura over a false abduction complaint made by a journalist attached to the 'Siyarata' website, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today. He said the 62-year-old journalist was arrested for making a false complaint saying he was abducted on March 10. "The journalist has been admitted to the hospital on March 10 claiming he was abducted and tortured before being dumped at a street corner in Maligawatta. However, the CCD investigations revealed that the journalist has made a fake complaint and his wounds are self-inflicted," the DIG said. He said the journalist has visited former MP Chathura Senaratne's office at Thimbirigasyaya on March 10. "He had also met MP Rajitha Senaratne at the premises and left the office after some three hours later. Then only he had admitted himself to the hospital," the DIG said. He said the suspect had confessed to the police that his complaint was false. "The CCD will question the MP and his son over their links to the journalist and the journalist would be produced in court," he said.
