Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) increased to 7.6% in October 2021.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) stated that the CCPI has been increased, from 5.7% last month (September), an increase of 1.94% than that of the previous month.
This monthly increase has taken place due to the price increase in both food and non-food categories.
Subsequently, food inflation (YoY) increased to 12.8% in October 2021 from 10.0% in September 2021 and at the same time, non-food inflation (YoY) increased to 5.4% in October 2021 from 3.8% in September 2021.
When it comes to its annual average, the CCPI increased to 4.8% in October 2021, from 4.5% in September 2021.
Within the food category, the prices of rice, milk powder, coconut, and fresh fish increased, while the prices of items in the non-food category increased due to price increases observed in the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (LPG, maintenance/reconstruction) and restaurant and hotels subcategories during the month of October.
