Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne paid a visit to the Sri Lanka Navy Marines Headquarters in Sampoor, Trincomalee to inspect the training of Sri Lanka and United States Navy Marines on 25 August. US Naval Ship USS Anchorage also arrived at the Trincomalee harbour to assist the joint training.
The 208.5-metre long vessel has a displacement of 25,000 tons and a crew of 600 naval persons. The training is focused on convoy operations, urban fighting, non-lethal weapons, and field tactics which benefited around 250 SLN and 200 US Navy Marines.
