CEB Engineers Union says future power cuts due to load shedding

03 Dec 2021

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Engineers Union said that people islandwide would face power cuts on and off for the next few days due to load shedding, but they will not last longer than 1.5hrs in each area. Speaking exclusively with The Morning, CEB Engineers Union Secretary Dhammika Wimalaratne said that it would take up to 3 days for the Norochcholai power plant to get back to its full power supplying potential. "The engineers had a tough time fixing the problem, and now that the Norochcholai power plant is back and running, we have decided to resort to load shedding due to the pressure the island wide supply will put on the power plants immediately. So, we have decided that for the next 3-4 days, areas in Sri Lanka will experience about 1.5hr power cuts to balance the load," he said. Wimalaratna added that the CEB Engineers have temporarily called off the 'work to rule' strike that was ongoing, considering the inconvenience power cuts have on the general public.
