CEB General Manager responds to Engineers’ Union TU action

25 Nov 2021

Following a letter issued by the Engineers’ Union of the Ceylon Electricity Board which detailed that their ongoing Trade Union action would escalate if their demands are not met, CEB General Manager Eng. M.R. Ranatunga says that this purported trade union action by several individuals has no basis or valid justification. In a letter disseminated to all Additional General Managers of the CEB, Ranatunga highlighted that the effective and timely implementation of projects of national importance is a priority of the Government. Therefore, he said that those officials in the projects who intend to attend the purported Trade Union action shall give a prior notice individually to the General Manager through their respective Addl. GM's as the project work should not be disturbed. “In the event of such a disturbance, the respective officers concerned shall be personally held liable for any liquidity damage or claim made by the contractors or any other third party from the CEB or GOSL. Every effort shall be taken to complete projects of national importance on time,” he warned. It was also outlined that any officer who will not work after 1615 hrs as a part of the aforementioned campaign shall not be entitled for a Disturbance Allowance or use of transport facility after 1615 hrs.
