CEB yet to receive Rs. 47 bn from electricity bill payments

17 Sep 2021

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is supposed to receive a monthly sum of Rs. 47 bn through electricity bill payments, however Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge noted that this sum of money was not received last month due to the struggle faced by consumers owing to the current situation. These statements were made at a press briefing held today (17). He further expressed that it would be difficult for the CEB to provide uninterrupted electricity supply if bills are not paid. “We have halted disconnecting the electricity supply this month as well. If we are to extend the relief period by another month we will face a severe economic backlash, costing us an additional Rs 22 bn,” he stated.
