CEBEU behaving immaturely claims CEB Sr Engineers Association

06 Dec 2021

The behavior of the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union (CEBEU) is immature according to the CEB Sr Engineers Association Secretary Dr H M Wijekoon, who also said that they are not handling matters professionally. He made this statement during a press conference held today (06). "It is truly sad to see how the Engineers are behaving. Engineers are considered to be educated people, whereas I am in doubt when I see how they are making demands. Yes, there have been issues in the past as well, but we, as Senior Engineers, have never inconvenienced the people for our gains. Since the war, we have been supplying electricity to Sri Lanka, and even then we never made such demands," he said. Wijekoon further stated that demands can be made, but should be done with Professionalism. "We have also been part of Unions. Back in the day, we had various demands too as Government employees. But, we handled them with professionalism and maturity. In 2016 we had demands to extend the retirement age, and these demands were not met. Since then, over 35 Engineers have retired. Now, with the new budget, the retirement age has been extended. Things don't always happen when we want them too. It takes time, patience and perseverance, which must all be done with professionalism in mind," concluded Wijekoon.
