03 Jul 2020

Report submission postponed By Skandha Gunasekara The Central Bank (CB) Committee appointed to look into irregularities in the non-banking financial sector has requested additional time to complete the report following an influx of complaints. Committee member and CB Director – Legal and Compliance Sirikumara Kudagama told The Morning that there had been a sudden increase in complaints in the last few days. “By Monday (29 June), we had received only 60 complaints, most of them via email, and we were to conclude compiling the report, but then on Wednesday (1), we started getting more complaints,” he said, noting that by last evening (2), they had received around 220 complaints in total. Kudagama said that as a result of the additional complaints, they had to postpone their decision to submit the report on Wednesday. “We asked for more time to finish the report as we didn’t want to dismiss the new complaints,” he said, adding that he expected more complaints to come in. Kudagama said that they hoped to submit the report sometime next week.
