China set to grant Rs. 2.6 Billion to SL

It was agreed that China will assist Sri Lanka to strengthen national security in talks held between President Maithripala Sirisena and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Presidential Palace yesterday (14). The Chinese President affirmed China's support by taking steps in providing a grant of 2.6 Billion rupees to Sri Lanka on the request of President Sirisena to strengthen the country's security forces. The Chinese President has also agreed to immediately release 100 jeeps costing Rs. 1.500 billion and other equipment to the Sri Lanka Police Department. The two Governments also agreed upon intelligence sharing and also signed an agreement promoting closer cooperation in the field of defence. President Xi Jinping, while condemning the Easter Sunday attacks on Sri Lanka had also informed that the Chinese Government would provide a technical team upon President Sirisena's request to provide necessary technical expertise and equipment to Sri Lanka immediately.
