Republic of China continued to seal their supremacy in Asian sport when they achieved the feat of winning a century of gold medals on Wednesday, 29 August afternoon at the 18
th Asian Games, now on in Indonesia.
The Asian Games will be over in Jakarta on Sunday, 2 September.
Out of the 45 countries that are participating in this year’s Asiad, 37 have won at least a single medal by Wednesday afternoon.
History -
At the previous Asian Games, held in Incheon, South Korea in 2014, China won 151 golds out of a total of 345 medals. They won 109 silver medals too that time.
Since the inauguration of the Asian Games in 1951 in New Delhi, India, Japan became first, up to the 8th Games in Thailand in 1978, but since then China took the lead in the next nine Games and is most likely to become the tenth-time winner this year.
