The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has justified the reasons as to why the rejected consignment of organic fertiliser should be accepted by Sri Lanka and why the name of the vessel carrying the consignment was changed from Hippo Spirit to Seiyo Explorer.
This was made known via a twitter post by the Embassy yesterday (07).
The post detailed that the Ceylon Fertilizer Company received fertiliser samples on 28 July and claimed that the National Plant Quarantine Service tests should have been conducted before the import formalities were conducted.
Further, it was also mentioned that the ship’s name changed in November 2020 after a new owner. The Embassy says that this information was intentionally hidden and used by the media.
