01 Jun 2020

Avant-Garde Security Services Chairman Maj. (Retd.) Nissanka Senadhipathi today claimed that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General's Department were either influenced or pressurized by former MPs of the previous government over the Avant-Garde case. Senadhipathi provided evidence for the second day today (1) before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing incidents of political victimization under the 'Yahapalana regime'. Senadhipathi was summoned by the PCoI today following a complaint he had lodged with the PCoI against several MPs namely MPs Arjuna Ranatunga, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Dr. Rajitha Seneratne and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Senadhipathi speaking to reporters today said that MPs of the previous government had changed the CID team five times to influence investigations into the Avant-Garde case. He added that even the CIABOC team was changed thrice by the former MPs. "I have also provided evidence proving that the Attorney General's Department was also pressurized over the case." Senadhipathi said in coming sessions with the Commission he will submit phone recordings incriminating certain politicians. "I have evidence to prove ransom was extracted from me," Senadhipathi added. In his complaint lodged with the PCoI, Senadhipathi charged that the former MPs had colluded to shut down Avant-Garde. Senadhipathi had also noted that MPs who stand accused by him had attempted to create a negative depiction of current President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
