The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has issued notices on SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe over some of the remarks he has made in relation to the Easter Sunday attacks.Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today that Kurunegala District MP Abeysinghe has made a speech on the perpetrators of the Easter Sunday attacks several days ago.
"In addition to that, he has mentioned about the sources that funded the Easter Sunday attacks. However, six MPs complained to CID yesterday on the content of the speech made by MP Abeysinghe. They said the content was bogus and apart from that they had made a request to conduct a full scale investigation into the statement," the DIG said.
The CID had informed the MP to appear in the CID to record a statement today but he hadn't turned up.
"Therefore, the CID has issued a notice in terms of the provisions of the section 109-6 of the Criminal Procedure Code asking him to appear in CID tomorrow. Apart from that, Nissanka Senadhipathi has also made a complaint to the CID on the same statement calling for an investigation. The CID is conducting a probe into the content of the speech," he said.
