The number of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials probing the Mahara unrest has been increased to 25 from 12, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today.
As of this morning, he said 116 statements have been recorded from the inmates and prison officials at Mahara over the unrest.
Statements have been recorded from 45 prison officials, 11 medical doctors, seven nurses and 53 inmates.
“The CID team intends to record all important evidence from all inmates and others to trace in respect of the conspiracy at Mahara Prison and who aided the conspiracy,” the DIG said.
