Further to the extremist attack in a shopping mall in Auckland on Friday (03), the Sri Lanka Police has issued a statement clarifying that the attacker is a Sri Lankan national and an investigation is to be carried out by both the Sri Lanka police and the CID to locate close contacts and associates of the attacker locally.
The individual is said to have left Sri Lanka in 2011 to New Zealand for higher education, and had been a person of interest since 2016 due to his ISIS inspired ideology and has been under 24/7 surveillance ever since.
The man was shot dead within 60 seconds following the attack, whereas 6 innocent lives were lost due to his actions.
