Citizenry to be blamed for sending the wrong people to Parliament: Fonseka

13 Feb 2022

It is none other than the people of this country that must be blamed for sending the wrong people to Parliament after believing their lies, says Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka. He made this statement during a party meeting held yesterday (12). "The people should be blamed for sending the wrong people to Parliament after believing their lies. They give small things to the people in exchange for votes, and then for the next 5 years the people suffer. The only way to change this is the people themselves. If any politician does not work for the benefit of the country, people should not vote for them. People must study the person they are voting for and should understand and evaluate whether or not they would stick to their promises. By believing lies and voting for the wrong people, sufferings are inevitable," he said. Additionally, Fonseka said that if there aren't any good politicians within his own party, then the people have the right to vote for who they believe would lead the country forward. "It is not the party that matters, but the individuals within the party. The right individuals need to be sent to parliament. The voting ethics of this country needs to be changed. When a Government is brought to power, the economy has to develop as well. But if a Government comes to power, uses the existing funds to build a bridge or dam, the economy will not develop. If this is to be done, the Government should come up with a strategy to bring in funds to the country and trade must develop," Fonseka stated. He concluded by saying that at the current rate the country is going at, the future of the country is bleak.
