Q/F Leg 2 of 2The four spots of the Champions League semi-finals are finally set. Manchester City beat Dortmund by a 4-2 aggregate to seal their first semi-final since 2016. Bayern Munich lost their chance of defending the title as PSG won on away goals.
The second leg of the quarter-finals concluded on Wednesday (14). Manchester City travelled to Germany to face Dortmund. They were 2-1 up after the first leg in England. It was the German side who got ahead in the game initially through a stunning goal from Jude Bellingham. It was two-minus on aggregate with Dortmund ahead with their away goal.
In the second half, City took matters into its own hands and put on a superior show. They found the equaliser in the 55th minute through a successful penalty from Riyadh Maharez. It put them ahead in the aggregate. Dortmund pushed on for another goal but it was City who put the game to bed through their second goal from their wonder kid Phil Foden. It was a special moment for Pep Guardiola who made it to the semis for the first time with Manchester City.
PSG manages to scrape through
PSG managed to scrape through to semi-finals as they beat the reigning champions Bayern Munich from away goals. Bayern needed a big performance after their first leg 2-1 defeat back home. They started well in the first half with a goal from Choupo-Moting. Even though the aggregate was tied on 3-3, Bayern was behind from away goals. PSG’s backline together with the goalkeeper showed grit as they held on until the final whistle, without conceding a goal.
Rest of the quarter-finals
Chelsea managed to fight their way to a semi-final birth after winning the tie on a 2-1 aggregate against Porto. It was a dull game throughout as both teams were cautious, not wanting to concede any early goals. Porto forced the issue in the second half, yet they were only successful three minutes into injury time when Mehdi Taremi found the back of the net. It proved to be too late for the underdogs to make a comeback.
The final spot in the semis was secured by Real Madrid after a goalless draw against Liverpool at Anfield. They won the first leg 3-1 in Spain and the score-line remained the same after the second leg.
Real Madrid will host Chelsea in the first leg of the semi-finals on Wednesday, 28th of April. PSG will host Manchester City on the 29th also in the first leg.
