Coconut prices controlled: Bandula
By Sarah Hannan
With a steady supply of coconuts, the prices of coconuts have now been brought under control, Minister of Trade Dr. Bandula Gunawardana revealed.
Speaking to The Sunday Morning on Friday (23), Dr. Gunawardana said: “The maximum retail price for coconuts was gazetted based on circumference sizing at a time when coconuts were sold at Rs. 150 per nut. However, with a steady supply that has been secured through the Coconut Development Board, coconuts are now sold at a controlled price of Rs. 65.”
The Minster noted that therefore, the Ministry had decided that there was no necessity to once again amend the price points for coconuts that are made available for retail.
