Colombo High Court has issued summons on former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, former Welikada HQI Sudath Asmadala & Dilum Thusitha Kumara to appear before courts on 20 August over 2016 accident case.
The Attorney General (AG) filed indictments in Colombo High Court against above mentioned individuals on the 10th of July.
The indictments were filed for conspiring and fabricating false evidence , providing false information to screen an offender and other charges.
A youth was injured when his motor cycle collided with a vehicle reported to be owned by Ranawaka on 28 February 2016.
In June 2016, the Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansooriya said due to insufficient evidence, Ranawaka could not pronounced a suspect.
However the Minister’s driver was named a suspect in the case. According to the Police, CCTV footage of the accident was found to have been erased.
In Novemeber last month, investigations were re-launched into the incident as two youth had come forward to provide evidence regarding the incident.
