Discussions took place between Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Tareq Md Ariful Islam on improving the utilisation of the Port of Colombo for Bangladesh exports.  The CBSL Governor met the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka on Friday (24), as announced by the Communications Department of the CBSL.  The CBSL communiqué further stated that discussions were conducted on strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.  Currently, the CBSL has come into a currency swap agreement with the Bangladesh Central Bank to provide a total of $ 250 million in order to support Sri Lanka’s diminishing foreign reserves while easing its exchange rate.  Accordingly, $ 150 million was provided to the island on 3 August this year.
