Colombo’s short kerosene shortage ends

17 Aug 2021

BY Buddhika Samaraweera Although people were seen waiting in long queues to buy kerosene at several fuel stations in the Colombo District on 14 and 15 August, the supply of kerosene had returned to normal by yesterday (16). The main reason for this was the spread of rumours among the people that there was a shortage of kerosene and that the supply of kerosene to fuel stations had been disrupted on 14 August. As a result, there were long queues at fuel stations to buy kerosene on 15 August as well. When contacted by The Morning to inquire about this, Secretary to the Ministry of Energy K.D.R. Olga said there was a shortage of kerosene in only one area in the Colombo District on 14 and 15 August. “This was not a nationwide issue. At present, there is no shortage of kerosene in the area that was affected either,” she added. However, even though the supply of kerosene was back to normal yesterday, there were long queues at several places in Colombo to buy kerosene, since the supply had been disrupted for two days.
