Colonial terms in Penal Code & Evidence Ordinance replaced to fit present times

The Ministry of Justice has replaced the colonial era wordings and terms in the Penal Code and the Evidence Ordinance following the approval of the Parliament given to reform these Acts. Accordingly, several words that are not in use have been reworded. The word ‘Lanka’ has been replaced with ‘Sri Lanka’, while ‘Sri Lanka Government’ has been replaced with ‘the Government of Sri Lanka’, ‘Civil Service’ replaced by ‘Sri Lanka Administrative Service’, ‘Police Vidane’ replaced with ‘Grama Seva Niladhari’, ‘Wife’ replaced with ‘Spouse’ and ‘Governor and Senate members’ was replaced with ‘The President and Members of Parliament’. Meanwhile, fines for violating bail conditions have been increased by reforming the Bail Act.
