Commemorations of tsunami victims tomorrow in line with health guidelines

25 Dec 2020

The National Safety Day 2020 to commemorate the victims of the 2004 Tsunami will be observed tomorrow in line with health guidelines, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said. It said religious observances will be held at district levels to invoke blessings on the victims of natural disasters including the 2004 Tsunami. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the DMC has limited the events to an alms giving at the Mallika Home for the elderly in Kollupitiya. The National Safety Day is being observed on December 26 of each year to commemorate the victims of the tsunami that hit Sri Lanka and many other neighbouring countries in 2004.
