Committee on non-banking financial sector: Report to be submitted today

Committee receives over 250 complaints By Skandha Gunasekara The Central Bank committee appointed to look into the issues within the non-banking financial sector is expected to submit its report today (7). Member of the committee and Head of the Department of Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions J.P. Gamlath said that they completed the report last afternoon (6). “We hope to submit the report by Tuesday (today, 7) to the Governor. We have viewed all complaints and have concluded compiling our report,” he said. He said that a host of complaints by individuals and other institutions had been received. “We received over 250 complaints from various individuals and companies and they have helped us in our task,” Gamlath added. The committee is headed by Presidential Secretariat Director General of Legal Affairs Hariguptha Rohanadheera and consists of Gamlath along with CBSL Director of Legal and Compliance Sirikumara Kudagama. The committee was tasked with looking into the problems in the non-banking financial sector and making recommendations on their findings to Central Bank Governor Prof. W.D. Lakshman.
