Committee to look into PTA amendments presents first report to Prez

The first draft of the renewed Prevention of Terrorism Act report was presented to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today. The report was presented to the President by the Chairman of the Committee and Defense Secretary (Ret.) General Kamal Gunaratne. The special 10 member committee that was appointed by President Rajapaksa was asked to propose whether to amend the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) (Temporary Provisions) Act of No 48 of 1979 or draft a new counter-terrorism law, to which the committee has now presented the first draft with amendments.  In attendance at the meeting today was Secretary to the Ministry of Justice M.M.P.K Mayadunne, Retd. Major Gen Jagath Alwis, Secretary to the Ministry of Public safety D. Wickramaratne, Chief of National Intelligence (Retd.) Major General Ruwan Kulathunga, Law Draft Maker Dilrukshi Samaraweera, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Justice Piyumanthi Peiris, Additional Solicitor Gen. Nerin Pulle, Deputy Law Advisor to the Foreign Ministry Thilani Silva and Presidents' Senior Asst. Secretary Jeewanthi Senanayake who also served as the secretary to the special committee that was appointed.
