Compensation to farmers who produce organic fertilizers: Ministry

The Ministry of Agriculture says that it has decided to pay Rs. 10,000 per hectare to  farmers who produce organic fertilizer, the Ministry said in a statement today. This was decided at a discussion held at the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the production and supply of organic fertilizer required for the forthcoming Maha season. Meanwhile, the government intends to fulfill the national requirement of 500 kg of organic fertilizer per hectare for 1.6 million hectares of plant nutrient ammonium in accordance with the recommendations for the production of organic fertilizer in coordination with all institutions. The discussion was chaired by Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage and was attended by Secretaries of several Ministries, Chairmen and Directors General of Public Corporations, representatives of the Army and the Civil Defense Force. The amount of organic fertilizer that can be produced by the beginning of September for the upcoming Maha season was discussed at length. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture has pointed out that the standard organic fertilizer produced by all individuals and institutions has been prepared to be purchased without any problem through the state fertilizer companies.
