Conduct immediate inquiry into vaccination of GMOA members' families: PHI Union

07 Jun 2021

The Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union  says that the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) in the Southern Province should immediately conduct an inquiry into the vaccination of relatives of its members. The President of the Association Upul Rohana stated that administering the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine is a serious problem. "There are about 580,000 more people in Sri Lanka who are yet to receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. It was reported that the vaccine was given to people from private institutions, families of doctors, etc. who came from Colombo," he said. He inquired that if the vaccine was given to those in the private sector, how could it be given to those in the public sector. "We have seen administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine in various areas. A formal inquiry is needed as to whether these vaccine provisions are being misused," Rohana said.
