Confident of 130-plus seats: SLPP

By Skandha Gunasekara

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was confident of attaining above 130 seats in Parliament, The Morning learnt.

Senior SLPP member and former MP Keheliya Rambukwella said the party was certain of winning 130-plus seats.

“We will definitely get more that 130. But we are hoping for 150. We cannot say yet, as it is too early to make any predictions,” he said.

He noted that the voter turnout was lower than the last election and blamed the United National Party (UNP).

“I feel the percentages are not in keeping with the Presidential Election. The reason is the hardcore UNPers, who didn’t want to cross over or support another party, (who) refrained from voting.”
