Constitution delays MMDA reforms

By Skandha Gunasekara The Government has made constitutional changes their top legislative priority, meaning that other legislation such as the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (MMDA) would only be looked at later, The Sunday Morning learnt. “The constitutional reforms are a mighty task and we are prioritising that at the moment. We will look at other laws such as the MMDA thereafter,” Ministry of Justice Secretary M.M.P.K. Mayadunne told The Sunday Morning. Reforms to the MMDA have been pending since the previous Yahapalana Government. “Right now, we are concentrating solely on the constitutional reforms that are to be brought about,” he added
